The Lauderdale Yacht Club (LYC) in Fort Lauderale hosted this years 2016 Meleges Gold Cup. It was not only a great event for the Meleges 32 sailors but the LYC foundation also made it possible for a junior sailor to ride with each Meleges 32 sailors. What a great opportunity for young sailors to learn hands on from the best sailors in the nation. The second day of racing held three races which were held on February 13th, Dick DeVos came out on top by just one point. The water started out calmly in the first race, which DeVos came in a close second, but by the time the third race was undergo the wind was not the only thing that was unpredictable. The races ended with both Denver Rozzo and Michael Moss taking home trophies for best youth efforts – both whom will be able to remember this experience for a long time to come. Dick is a great man to be recognized – and not only because of his impeccable sailing skills.
DeVos and his wife Beverly have started a foundation called The Dick & Betsy DeVos Family Foundation which acts as a partnership for local and global communities for growth and stability. Along with starting such an awesome foundation, Dick was also president and CEO of the Orlando Magic Basketball Team.
DeVos is a man of money but he is a man who uses his money to help the community to grow. Dick grew up in a family of business men which inspired him to grow to be the successful businessman that he is today. Dick was listed as the 67th richest man in the U.S. with a net worth just over $5 billion dollars. Dick DeVos is a man to be recognized for his charitable efforts, as well as his excellent sailing skills.
Dick grew up in his family’s company, Amway (See Mlive article about Dick’s time at the company) and learned most of his business skills while climbing up the ladder at this corporation.
